While no immediate move is likely, there will always be speculation about Lionel Messi’s future, which Diario Sport has investigated. Messi, 35, has one year left on his contract at PSG, but the Argentina international will wait until the end of the season to make a decision.

According to the report, Messi could leave PSG, return to Barcelona, or retire. Barcelona president Joan Laporta made headlines earlier this month when he declared that the “Messi chapter” at Camp Nou is far from over. Bringing in Messi is “impossible” at the moment, according to Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez, but he has not ruled out bringing him back in the future.

The chief business officer of Inter Miami CF also hinted at a future Messi move, saying that a potential deal would serve as a “reference point for football in the United States.”

Prior to joining PSG in 2021, the 35-year-old spent his entire career at Barcelona, where he scored 672 goals in 778 appearances and won a slew of trophies.

Messi hopes to lead Argentina to their first World Cup victory later this year in Qatar. He is his country’s all-time leading scorer, with 86 goals in 162 appearances, and last year broke Pele’s record for most goals scored for a South American nation.
