Transfer Talk: Gavi is about to sign a €1 billion deal with Barcelona, which will stymie interest from Liverpool and Bayern

Barcelona confident of sealing Gavi renewal in spite of delay | OneFootball

According to Diario Sport, Barcelona midfielder Gavi is about to sign a long-anticipated contract extension with a €1 billion release clause.

The 18-year-old was the subject of “a big financial effort” from Barcelona, according to sources who spoke to ESPN in June. This effort included a significant clause in the contract that will reportedly keep him with the Blaugrana through at least 2026.

The Spain international’s current contract expires in the summer of 2023. Liverpool and Bayern Munich had been linked with the player, but any transfer will now be extremely challenging to complete due to the size of the rumored release clause.

The date of Thursday is specifically chosen so that the transaction can be finalized before Gavi leaves for Spain’s international commitments. Additionally, this is the only free day between the return trip from the Champions League match against Bayern and Elche’s Saturday visit to Camp Nou.

The presentation by Gavi will probably be similar to those by Hector Bellerin and Marcos Alonso in that there won’t be any audience members present.
