According to Diario Sport, Barcelona intends to sign Bernardo Silva of Manchester City regardless of whether Frenkie de Jong departs.

While Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie joined Barca on free transfers, the club spent over €150 million on Robert Lewandowski, Rafinha, and Jules Kounde this summer. To be able to register all of their new signings for the start of LaLiga the following weekend, the Blaugrana are in a race against time due to their widely publicized financial problems.

However, according to Diario Sport, Silva can be signed without De Jong, even though that would require the team to make another fundraising effort.

To raise the money for their incoming players, Barca has already carried out three operations that president Joan Laporta has dubbed “financial levers.” In two separate agreements, they paid the investment company Sixth Street over €500 million for 25% of their domestic television rights over 25 years. Then, for about €100 million, they sold 24.5 percent of their in-house production company, Barca Studios, to Socios.com. According to club sources, they did this to register all of their summertime activities.

Silva’s City manager Pep Guardiola earlier this week stated the following about the Portuguese international: “I want the players to be content. Of course I want Bernardo to be here, but the truth is that I have no idea what will transpire.”
