According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City is close to signing left-back Sergio Gomez from Anderlecht.
Pep Guardiola, the manager of City, had originally intended to loan the 21-year-old defender to City Football Group member Girona in La Liga, but he is now thinking about keeping Gomez with the first team at the Etihad Stadium.
Before he travels to Manchester for a medical, the transfer negotiations are believed to be well along and to have cost more than €10 million.
Gomez contributed to 17 goals in 39 games last season, making him a standout performer in the Belgian First Division.
After losing Oleksandr Zinchenko, a left-sided defender who joined Arsenal for £32 million in July, Man City has been searching for a replacement.
Marc Cucurella was desired by the Blues, but they were unable to meet Brighton & Hove Albion’s asking price. As a result, Chelsea acquired the defender for £63 million.
